Raised in Richmond, BC, and now based in Delta, Jac Matthew grew up immersed in music and performance. She was classically trained on violin from the age of three, and was later involved in dance and musical theatre. Around the same time, she began teaching herself guitar and writing her own songs.
In 2017, Jac attended a songwriting workshop at Vancouver’s Nimbus School of Recording Arts. After welcoming her second daughter, she began approaching songwriting with a new level of focus and leaned into the kind of writing that would eventually define her sound. This ultimately led her to Nashville in 2024, where she was invited to perform during the Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival.
Back in BC, Jac made waves when she stepped into the spotlight in 2025 with her debut single Wild Things, earning airplay on SiriusXM’s Top of the Country and landing multiple Apple Music editorial playlists. With her latest single, Make It Make Sense, Jac continues to establish herself as a rising voice in Canadian country.
Jac credits The Barn Country Bar’s “Barn Sessions Songwriters Showcase” for broadening her local community and being a learning experience within the country music industry. Fun fact, Jac also met a couple of her now band members there!
Listen for Jac Matthew and her song ‘Make It Make Sense’ all month long on JR Country!
