BC Bans Bots!

The all new “Ticket Sales Act” is officially a thing in BC as of yesterday (July 1st). Perfect, because as you know concerts and events are back in a BIG WAY BABAY!!

So what does this do for you?

“The new Ticket Sales Act aims to help level the playing field by banning bots that scoop up large quantities of tickets to concerts, sports events and other live performances for resale purposes. It will also increase transparency by requiring businesses to spell out refund requirements and terms and conditions of the sale…“The Ticket Sales Act will provide greater transparency and accountability in the industry so people will have a fair shot at getting tickets and be confident that better consumer protections are in place.”

The act focuses on ticket-selling businesses which were previously only subject to general consumer protection rules, not specific rules relating to ticket sales and resales. It does not deal with consumer-to-consumer transactions. The legislation will also:

• Ban businesses from selling tickets they don’t have or control to consumers;

• Establish clear rules for refunds;

• Increase transparency about ticket prices, terms and conditions, and whether it is a reseller selling the ticket;

• Provide a right to civil action for losses or damages if sellers contravene the legislation.
