Country Duo Maddie & Tae Split to Focus on Family and Solo Dreams
After a decade of making music together, country duo Maddie & Tae are officially parting ways.
The pair shared the news with People, admitting it’s been “such a hard, hard — honestly, heartbreaking — decision.”
“This was the only dream I’ve ever had since I exited the womb,” Kerr said. “I had a very specific vision of creating music and singing music. When we met at 15, that’s what we set out to do, and we’re both just so grateful that we’ve had the journey we’ve had.”
Despite ending their professional partnership, the two emphasized that their personal bond remains strong.
Life, they explained, is simply taking them down different paths.
Tae is entering a season where she wants to stay home and focus on her family, while Maddie feels called to continue chasing the dream through a solo career — all while raising her own children. Fittingly, this mirrors the theme of their song “Chasing Dreams and Raising Babies.”
The duo has long explored the tension between career and family in their music. Their May 2025 album Love & Light, which includes that track, features the emotional line:
“It never gets easier saying goodbye / To sweet brown eyes begging ‘Mama, please stay’ / It’s hell on the heart to drive away.”
Still, the door isn’t fully closed!
As Maddie shared, “We might make another record one day… We might go do some tour dates one day.”
