Country Music Legend’s Granddaughter Auditions For American Idol

The Granddaughter of Country Legend Loretta Lynn made her debut on American Idol on Sunday Night (Feb 25).
24 year old singer songwriter Emmy Russell stepped in front of the Idol judges to sing an original song. The judges first impression of Russell was that she was very timid and quiet. Luke Bryan had to tell Russell to speak up a bit saying “We’re gonna have to turn you up some more,”.
Before starting her audition the judges asked the young singer songwriter about her musical roots. This is where Russell revealed she was the granddaughter of Loretta Lynn a country music legend, shocking the judges.

Emmy Russell sang her original song “Skinny“, wowing the judges and ultimately making it through to the next round of Idol.
Judge Katy Perry praised the young songwriter after the performance, and gave her advice about filling the shoes of her grandma saying “Emmy, you’re an A+ songwriter, So was your grandma. You got the gift. I don’t think you need to compare yourself to what grandma was. You’re totally different. You shouldn’t give yourself all that pressure.”
