Size Doesn’t Matter: An Abbreviated Christmas Claylist 2020
JR’s FaLaLaLaLa Contest gave the JR family a lotta trips under the tree this year, but because we wanted to surprise you with Christmas tunes to launch the gifting, we couldn’t do a full 12 days of Christmas Claylist this year.
Here then, is a quicker trip into the outer reaches of Holiday tune-age. If you’re new to the Claylist, it’s like this: I LOVE CHRISTMAS TUNES but the hate the drudgery of the same dozen records over and over. So I like to switch it up.
The Bird & The Bee – “Sleigh Ride”
L.A.’s electro pop-wonders released a Christmas album this year called “Put Up The Lights” . Their take on Sleigh Ride is equal parts seasonal sweet and Christmas cheese…2 flavours I love in December 🙂
Jamie Cullum – “It’s Christmas”
For the most part, nobody wants to hear your original Christmas song. Christmas is about tradition and that’s why the same songs are done and redone.
But let’s make an exception for excellence. British piano man Jamie Cullum didn’t write this song for 2020, but man does it feel like it. Just listen to the lyrics. Not to mention the dude’s effortless swinging, perfect for that big band holiday vibe.
“Everybody’s crowded round the Christmas tree
Digging out the best of themselves
Shove your petty differences right up the chimney, please
At least until the drums are at the twelfth”
Yes indeed sir 🙂
Mitchell Tenpenny – “Joy To The World”
This onetime altar boy says it’s not Christmas without carols. The actual hymns. Songs so revered that creating a fresh new take is almost dangerous. Congrats to Mitchell Tenpenny for this one!
