WIN a Year’s Supply of GLAD products!!! AND My Organizational Tips for 2018!!!
Missed our feature, have a listen:
So we’ve endured the first few weeks of January, how’s everyone doing? 2018 feels pretty good to me. One of the projects I’ve been working on to kick off the new year is organizing my new house. While that sounds like an easy feat, organizing is hard (and fun) work! I’ve put together a list of the tips and tricks that took my home from tornado to bliss and I can’t tell you how good it feels to be diving into spring with the daunting task of “spring cleaning” already crossed off the list.
I love keeping the kitchen clean and organized with these items from Wayfair. You can use them for a whole range of items like protein powder, fruit, cookies, etc. Gone are the days of tupperwares to hold my flour. Plus, Wayfair has fast and free shipping so you can start organizing right away. They’re also perfect for toting tasty soups or granolas, but mine live on my kitchen counter with the essentials… protein powder and gluten free flours.
One of my favourite home detox’s is one that begins with my closest. While I have a tough time parting with my once-loved pieces, when I do it this way, I feel good about giving back. If you know me, you know I’m a big advocate for Dress for Success. What I do, is open up three strong and heavy Glad garbage bags and take my closet by storm. I love the Glad bags because even with the weight of many, MANY clothing items, they never tear. Glad Canada are the makers of Trash Bags including Outdoor, Indoor, Recycling and Compostable Bag and Food Protection products including plastic wrap, containers and food storage bags. I put aside one bag for clothes I’m definitely keeping, one bag for clothes I’m bringing to Dress for Success and one bag of “maybes.” My rule is this; after a month, if I haven’t gone rummaging through the “maybe” bag looking for something – I don’t take another peek and I send it all away to good will. You can also bring your clothes to places like Downtown East Side Womens Centre and Atira. While we’re on the topic of giving back, Glad also cares about keeping Canadian cities clean. They have participated in 14 city-wide clean ups across Canada and provide free bags to community members to help clean up the cities and protect the environment.
Now to the laundry room. Having a space where you can sort your clothes is crucial, both for ensuring that your whites, colours and delicates don’t mix and also for ensuring that Gary doesn’t steal my extra warm and cozy winter socks. I keep bins in my laundry room that read “His, Hers and Home” this way Gary doesn’t toss my delicates in the dryer with his cotton tees. I love this laundry hamper from Etsy. Don’t allow more than a few laundry bins as consolidating laundry as much as possible saves loads, and also saves water – reducing your green footprint!
Rid yourself of clutter!! This tip is helpful for every room. You know the extra blankets in the living room, the 20 remotes in the tv room and the 100 documents in the office, these don’t have to be sitting on countertops cluttering up your space. I am all about statement storage. In each room we have cute baskets, wire bins and bags that we use as both elevated decor, and sneaky storage. I love this steel basket and seagrass bag from Wayfair.
Now last but not least, let’s take it to the fridge. I don’t know about you but my freezer is usually a mess of meal-prep, frozen produce and berries, ice packs and more. One of my girlfriends told me she uses plastic (freezer safe) bins to organize her space. I started separating my frozen veggies, frozen fruit, ice packs, meal prep, etc by bin and now my freezer is an organizational freaks dream. Everything is super easy to find, and it feels like we have WAY more space.
