Is it bad that I am already way too excited for christmas?? I went to a holiday event a month back for Superstore, which showcased their must haves for this holiday season. Being around all the beautiful decorations with the combination of pine scented candles burning in every room, really kickstarted my christmas spirit!
One thing I look forward to every holiday season are the activities around our beautiful city. From light extravaganza’s to rides, we really do have it all here. SO, I have put together a little cheat sheet for you all and listed my top 5 activities to do around the holiday season in vancouver!
Thanks to Vail, I will be riding the slopes all winter long. Whistler is one of my favorite places and I always try to sneak up there whenever I have some free time. Us vancouverites tend to take this place for granted, but Whistler is LITERALLY world renowned. During my travels, people from all over ask me about Whistler which just makes me appreciate the beautiful place I live in EVEN more.
Grouse mountain is a local ski hill in North Vancouver. Every year they go all out with the christmas theme and have ice skating, sleigh rides, lights and yummy hot coco. This year it will run from November 27th to January 6th. Kids or no kids, Grouse Mountain is great to go for the day, remember those winter boots though…I made that mistake before…
AH I could never get tired of this event. It is put on by the local firman every year as a fundraiser. if you haven’t gone, book your tickets and go, but book soon because the best times sell out fast! It’s located in Stanley Park and it is a miniature train ride through beautifully decorated forest. With music, lights and a little bit of baileys in your hot chocolate, this is a heartwarming activity for all.
This is held at the Van Dusen Gardens from December 1st to January 2nd. The gardens are spectacular without all of the lights, so with the lights it’s mind blowing. At only $16, this is an affordable activity you can do with just your partner or go with a group of friends.
I have been to this the past two years, and have loved it equally each time. There’s something about a christmas market that really get you in the spirit. From stores selling little christmas themed items to vendors selling AMAZING food, this is a must go too. Oh, and did I mention the great german beer? Might be a good selling point for all the dads or boyfriends out there!
While I know it’s wrong to pick favourites, I can’t help it with this one. Cornucopia is like a day at the arcade, but for adults. It has been referred to as “The True North of Food & Drink Fesivals”. Staff describe it as “a place of culinary reckonings, where the wild meets the refined and the epic and the epicurious come together”. This exciting event is coming fast; starting on the 9th of November, and running for 11 days – don’t miss it! As if the delicious food and drink wasn’t incentive enough, Cornucopia is also owned by a non-for-profit and run as a charity benefit for the community!
Last but definitely not least, there will be Glow Christmas coming to Langley Milner Garden November 24th. Forget enchanted, this light display will feature 4 themed light gardens, 210 foot interactive light tunnel as well as food trucks and a bar. In total there will be over 500,000 lights and is one of, if not the biggest light display in the world. Get your early bird tickets now for only 20$!
Hope this helps with your holiday plans and gives you that motivation to get out and do something fun! REMEMBER, christmas only happens once a year, so start taking advantage of that soon.
