It’s that time again… I can’t believe it’s already been a year since I shared my beauty tips for prom with you! Where does the time go? On top of that my youngest cousin is graduating this June…. now I just feel OLD, haha!. Prom is a night you want to remember and not cringe when you look at photos years later and feel proud that you looked and FELT effortlessly beautiful and happy with the beauty and fashion choices you made at the time. Through the many red carpet events that I attend and cover, I have acquired a few tried and true tips that I can’t live without and I want you all to know them too!! Here are some of my beauty tips you may not have heard before to help you get ready for Prom or a Big Night Out!
Brighten your smile. Here is one mistake I’ve made and I’ve paid for it until this day. I wanted pearly whites for Prom and instead of leaving a pair of white strips on for 30 minutes, I fell asleep and woke up 4 hours later with severe, throbbing pain in my gums. Don’t be like me. Start two weeks earlier and swap your regular toothpaste for one that’s whitening and avoid any dark soda, coffee and tea. By the time prom hits you won’t be able to hide your stunning smile. For a quick fix: try a lipstick with blue undertones. plum, cherry, reds, purply pinks, or any shade with a silvery shimmer will do the trick and will make your teeth seem whiter.
Fill in your brows. This is something I wish I could go back and tell my 16 year old self to do. Fill in dem brows girl!!! Strong brows can literally shape your face and can make the biggest difference when it comes to how you look in professional photos. And by professional photos, I mean the 7,000 your mom will make you take. Here’s a tip: go to your nearest cosmetic counter, like Shoppers, London Drugs or the Bay and ask one of their experts to give you a mini lesson on shaping your brows. You can thank me later :).
Load up on dry shampoo. Honestly I WISH there was dry shampoo when I went to prom. I was using baby powder but you need to be careful with using talc on your scalp. Dry shampoo is the best thing since sliced bread. It’s not just for when you need to hide second-day hair. Just apply it immediately after you dry your hair to add texture to your updo and ensure your style will last longer.
Swipe foundation on your neck and ears. A huge pet peeve of mine is having your face makeup two or three shades darker than your ears or neck. To prevent a major Insta disaster make sure to cover all the areas and blend from your face down. See my next tip if you need to even out your skin.
Crank up your glow. If your dress is strapless or mini, slather on a lotion with a shimmering tint, then dust shoulders and collarbones with a bronzing powder for an extra dose of radiance.
If you’re pale as can be, like me, you’ll want to make yourself an appointment to get a little extra bronzing love. A few tans or a spray tan can disguise thighs, love handles, and that muffin top that is still hanging out from the holidays. If you can’t tone it TAN it! Cocoa Tanning Studio is a great spot for all of your tanning and airbrushing needs. They offer some facial packages just for prom that include The Dream Exfolation by Indermica and The Red Carpet Fire and Ice.
For the entire first week of May, their Beauty Week promotion is back May 1st – 7th that includes tanning and infrared sauna for only $10 and spray tans starting at $20!! This offer is available at both Yaletown and Gastown locations.

•Volume is key! Using a shampoo and conditioner that works from the inside out ensures volume will last.
•Once you’ve washed and dried your hair, protect and add additional volume with a product like John Frieda’s Luxurious Volume® Core Restore™ Advanced Protein Volumizer. With its heat-activated technology, it works with your styling tools to give you the big hair of your dreams.
•Tease sections of your hair right under your top layer.
•When done teasing, use a light hand and brush or comb the top layer into place.
•Complete the look with a few sprays of the John Frieda Frizz Ease Moisture Barrier Flexible Hold hairspray. With Vancouver’s weather this year, it’s safe to keep the humidity tamed down.
Put your best skin forward.
•Hydrate! And that vanilla latte doesn’t count toward your 8 daily cups of water. Staying hydrated helps keep skin clear and even.
•Set your skin care routine a few weeks (or a few months!) before the big night to minimize stress on your skin. Use a cleanser with balancing properties like charcoal and introduce masks or pore strips, like Biore’s Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips, on a weekly basis in the month leading up.
•Beauty sleep isn’t just a myth. While every person is different, aim for 7-8 hours every night, especially in the weeks leading up.
•A flawless tan is hard to come by this time of year, and too much time in the sun can be harmful to your skin. Using a sunless tanner, like Jergens Natural Glow, lets you build your own colour or you can book yourself a spray tan appointment. See tip – crank up your glow.
•Take the perfect picture by ensuring you have lots of natural light!
Pack Your Purse. Ana V Beauty recommends that on prom night make sure you have the these items in your purse before you leave the house.
1. Deodorant
2. Lipsticks
3. Lash glue
4. Compact powder to keep those selfie on point
