Docc’s Hawaii Pub/Restaurant POWER RANKINGS
So, my Wife and I are sitting at one of the coolest bars on Earth – Huggo’s On The Rocks in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. It’s our final night before we come home to the rain. Happy Hour is on, $6 Mai Tais.
We didn’t quite hear who the live band was introducing, but we saw it was an old timer in a sweet shirt. I assumed he was the owner of the bar…NOPE.
IT WAS CAROLL SPINNY! You might not know the name – but you grew up with the voice every morning! Caroll was the original voice of Oscar the Grouch (my spirit Muppet) and the legendary man in the ‘stume of BIG BIRD! (That’s him, back in the golden years…)
Dude just sat in with the band and started banging out old Sesame Street classics like this one. I almost cried…My wife did. (…Like I said – the mai tai’s were only $6!)

The Fish Hopper 10!! Matt and shanna. Matt made a VAG (van art gallery) joke. Powerful drinks, shanna is having a mushroom baby. Update: we don’t remember what that means…
Kona canoe club -8.6 twas ok. View better than the drinks
Pine Tree Cafe – 8 -breakfast! French toast on sugar bread or something. Do they have pine trees here? Bonus: Old man playing Pokemon go on his phone…
Pancho and Lefty’s 7.96 colourful serviettes. Decent service. Soggy ‘chos. Many great old coke machines. **Grandpa host. He was very slow, but Elvis hair made up for it.
Macaroni Grill – had to. So hungry. Pizza was good. Beer came fast. But, basically a strip mall Boston pizza. 7
Humpys Ale House -10 I think they offer 9000 beers. Chicken strips are bae. **chicken strips are Calamari of the land. <—-Drunk ass wife
Hawaiian style cafe in Waimea – 9.6/10 sat next to 5th generation rancher Freddy Parker jr. he hated us. He was kinda racist, in a roll your eyes at Grandpa kind of way…I enjoyed the gravy rice. AKA Moco Loco!
Laverne’s dive bar and sports oasis 9.8 The house band is a father in laws dream.$6 mai this! Oh maiiiii!!
Huggo’s on the Rocks – just a quick drink, we will be back on the last night. But it smells of heavenly fried food.

Paradise brewing co. – 8.9 out of the house lager. Too bad. Erin got a liquor pineapple. Watched a painful belly flop. Server looked like a young Sean Penn. said “radical” but it didn’t sound dumb. Would like him to be my big brother….
Sam Choys. 6.2 It’s like. Denny’s but kinda worse. Our sever is probably still trying to figure our order out. Nice view tho
Holunakoa Gardens and Cafe 9.1 Sinatra on the speakers. A server probably named Brody or Chaz or something. Update: his name was Shayne…but spelled Cheyne. Many shakas.
Kona Brewery 700!! Pineapple IPA game changer. Live band. Bought cd for $10 I tried to write down A line:”Blueis a colour that I’m much less to used to with u”But that’s not it. But it was a great line. I forget the trolley ride. I played Erin some Dave Mathews Band to make her like me again when we got back to the room.
Huggos On The Rocks 10!!! Best view/happy hour/ live music on the island. OSCAR THE GROUCH WAS ACTUALLY THERE!! Save it for your last night, get a table on the water for sunset…and hope ol’ Caroll is there that night!
