Vancouver Canucks May Ban Video Games
It’s not just your boyfriend or your kids addicted to Fortnite, it’s the Canucks too apparently…
The Vancouver Canucks just may be banning video games on road trips this year. Speaking to the media Alternate Captain (but pretty much the captain, he just doesn’t have a “C” on his jersey this year…for now)Bo Horvat said “No more Fortnite. No more bringing your video games on the road. It’s strictly team meals, team dinners, and hanging out with the guys. So we’ll have to put an end to that.”
No-Fun-Couver Canucks!!
I’ve never actually played Fortnite, is it really that good?
I can understand banning video games on the road if this was a peewee Rep team or maybe even a Junior hockey team, but in the NHL…c’mon man!!! As the Chief would say these are grown ass men, if they want to play video games on the road, let ’em play video games on the road!! That’s better than going to the bar, no? Yes video games can be addictive, and if there was a case of someone or a few guys really having a problem then yeah…ok, but maybe handle that in house? Just coming straight out and telling people what they can and cannot do away from the rink is not a great look for an organization.
Eddie Lack makes a great point as well:

I get GM/coaches get upset with guys gaming all night but that’s not the case (from my own experiences). Everyone that’s here wants to make NHL more than anything… (Even more than playing fortnite)

Seriously though…
From my experience in college and junior, playing video games was great for team bonding, but it never got in the way of playing hockey. Never. First and foremost these guys are hockey players, hockey is on their mind 99% of the time, all the time. For an organization that has had trouble being, well, likable this isn’t really a good look. If these guys want to play video games to get their mind off of the pressure of playing in the NHL I don’t see the problem.
I say let ’em play. What do you think?
